The government has sanctioned Rs.60.17 lakh to the government hospital at Sivakasi in Virudunagar district for establishing a dedicated burns treatment ward.
Principal Secretary, Health, Girija Vaidyanathan, in a release stated that Sivakasi was chosen considering the large number of fireworks units and match factories there. The hospital had been provided Rs.20 lakh to set up an intensive care unit and a post-surgery ward. Another Rs.40.17 lakh had been provided for procuring equipment. The government had decided to post three doctors, three nurses, six paramedical and six non-medical staff members in the burns ward. For this it would allot Rs.52.77 lakh annually.
